Currently reading: Percy Jackson.

This title might imply that I am literally reading Percy Jackson, but since you can't actually read a fictional person, let me tell you that I am reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
I mentioned these in my TBR for the rest of September, and decided to read these first. I have already read the first two by the time this blogpost is up, but I thought it would be fun to let you guys know what my thoughts are on them.

First up: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
This book introduces us to the chaotic world of twelve-year-old Percy Jackson. He is a troubled kid, being kicked out of multiple schools and living with his mom and horrible stepdad.
He is dyslexic and has trouble fitting in with the other children. Percy is different, and that becomes even more obvious when his teacher suddenly turns into a Fury and attacks him. She accuses him of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt, even though he is still completely unaware of the fact that he is the son of Poseidon. All of the sudden all the myths about Greek Gods become reality and Percy learns that he is a demigod, half human and half god. His best friend Grover turns out to be a Satyr and his favourite teacher Mr. Brunner is a centaur named Chiron. They take him to a special camp for all demigods, where Percy is attacked again, but this time by the god Hades, his uncle, who tells him that he has Percy's mom and that he will only return her if Percy brings back his lightning bolt.
And even though Percy knows nothing of a lightning bolt, he is determined to get his mom back. So he goes on a mission to Mount Olympus, together with Grover and Annabeth, the daughter of Athena.

One thing that annoyed me from the very beginning was that Percy was so young! In the book, he starts out as a twelve-year-old, while in the movie he is already sixteen. In this case I do prefer him being sixteen because it makes more sense to me.
I did really enjoy this book, because it's more detailed and there is more background. Percy is brave and smart and he learns to accept his father's choices and he is willing to give everything up to safe his mom.
I have always considered the Greek mythology as interesting, but reading about the gods in a story form makes it even more enjoyable.

This story leads up to the point where Percy and his friends reach Mount Olympus, where they save his mom after challenging Lord Ares, who has had the lightning bolt all along. Hades realizes that it wasn't Percy who stole the lightning bolt and so he releases them.

It's a good book, adventurous and educational. It builds up Percy's story and the world of Greek mythology in our modern society. I enjoyed it, read it in two hours and I am excited for the other books.

Second: Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.
I immediately picked this one up after finishing The Lightning Thief because I was just really intrigued and excited.
The book starts out with Percy having a dream about his friend Grover. He dreams that Grover is running from a Cyclops named Polyphemus, who believes that Grover is his bride. Grover asks Percy to come and save him and when Percy wakes up, he realizes that his friend really is in danger.
That day at school, when playing dodgeball in gymclass, Percy is attacked by Giants. He is lucky that his friend Tyson protected him, because other wise he would have been dead.
Annabeth suddenly shows up and tells him that the Half Blood Camp is under attack. They immediately leave, taking Tyson with them because he turns out to be Cyclops.
When they arrive at the camp, they learn that Thalia's Tree, the tree that protects the camp, has been poisened and now all kind of monsters are able to enter the camp and attack.

Percy finds out that there is something that can save Thalia's Tree, a Golden Fleece, and he knows because Grover told him about it in another dream. Percy explains this to all the other campers and the director, who kind of hates Percy, so he sends Clarisse on a quest to find it.
Percy, unwillingly, shares the location numbers he got from the Grey Sisters, who drove them to the camp. Clarisse is supposed to go alone, but after meeting Hermes at night, he leaves for the Sea of Monsters together with Annabeth and Tyson.

That is where I stopped reading because I had to go to sleep. I'll probably finish the book today (it's wednesday today), and I'll write an update when I am reading the fourth book or so.
